My way of applying powder blush was self taught in high school, using the elementary steps standardized in every magazine: smile and apply blush in a sweep to the apples of your cheeks. Andrew snapped these pictures of the makeup artist applying powder blush at his last photoshoot and I learned a few new tricks:
1. Begin by holding the brush downwards, this avoids getting a heavy striped appearance on the cheeks. Start at the high point of your cheeks and brush downwards in light strokes along your cheekbone to your lower apple.
2. Then hold the brush as you would naturally like a paint brush, do a light circular motion to the apples of your cheeks and blend up. You can even add another dimension by using a different and slightly brighter color just on the apples of your cheeks.
3. Use a different brush or a the same brush without dipping to blend everything together and soften the edges.
