THE ILLUSTRATED MENU No. 4 SWEET SPRING

Was in charge of bringing up desserts for my family's Easter meet up. One of the things we made were Lavender Shortbread cookies, inspired to make shortbread after seeing some really beautiful French Pamplie butter across the street at Marlow and Daughters.

Dried lavender flowers give the cookies a Spring kick, also added a bit of floral to the closet with a Isabel Marant Jade Skirt in dark blue. I lived in IM skirts last summer so getting a new one promises that a fresh season has officially started.

LAVENDER SHORTBREAD

8 ounces unsalted butter, chilled

4 teaspoons fresh lavender buds, or teaspoons dried

1/2 cup sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

Makes 24 cookies - the best with Tea, Ice Cream or a Pot de Creme.

From The Herbfarm Cookbook via Saveur, download the rest of  the recipe here.

If lavender is not your thing, Dorie Greenspan's Punitions (adapted from Poilane's infamous recipe) are similar and also very easy to make.

P.S.

Saltie here in Brooklyn makes incredible Lavender Shortbread and one of my favorite places for lunch in the neighborhood.
