Bookshelf: Birthdays Are For
Books, and lots more lacey things; with delectable matching sets by Rituel/Carine Gilson, Araks and Stella McCartney. Phaidon's new Agnes Martin book is simply incredible, feeling more like a diary then a standard retrospective. Throughout the book there are about a dozen pop-out notebooks and handwritten scraps of letters by Agnes, all flawlessly reproduced on old paper and in her hand. They look like they were tucked in by accident, meant for the reader to discover. I've been relishing the book in small sections since I unwrapped it this weekend, slight surprises over and over again.
