City Escape: Birthdays Are For
For my birthday a few months ago Andrew took me to Bedford Post Inn, in Bedford, New York. I loved doing a small getaway on my birthday weekend last year at Table on Ten, so we decided to try another place upstate. We found ourselves again up at Bedford Post Inn this weekend to unwind before the holidays.
For a girl that lives in an average New York rental apartment, having a freestanding tub is a dream. So I would say the best thing about Bedford Post Inn is the big bathroom. Not only is there a beautiful, glorious tub, there is a heated marble floor and a huge marble walk in shower with dual heads to do a pre-soak, just like a Japanese bathing ritual.
I took advantage of the tub as much as I could- following a session of yoga in their barn, after a hike in the nearby 4,315-acre park Ward Pound Ridge right before dinner. The new Jean-Georges restaurant Inn at Pound Ridge, a sister restaurant to ABC Kitchen, is just a few minutes drive away. New Canaan is also extremely close by; top the weekend off with antique furniture shops, bowling and a visit to the nearby Phillip Johnson Glass House.
Photos by me. We like staying in room #5, with the original wood beams.
