Interiors: Our Bedroom
I've been redecorating and rearranging our apartment to make way for the nursery. Living in the same Brooklyn apartment rental for so long now, it was also definitely time for a refresh. I started with our bedroom, which is still a work in progress...
The bedroom walls used to be painted black and I was ready to go back to bright white. I picked Valspar’s Bistro White paint, it’s not too warm, more on the cooler side. At certain times of the day, when the sun is fully shining, the walls can give off the prettiest tones kind of like a Vilhelm Hammershøi.
A reading lamp
I had a bunch of images in my inspiration folder of simple bedroom spaces with just one beautiful lamp as the focal point. This makes sense to me since one of my favorite indulgences is reading in bed. The Prouvé Potence Lamp had been on my wish list, I love how it swings laterally so you can adjust where you want the light to be. I randomly ended up finding this dream lamp at Design Within Reach’s outlet store, where they sell perfect condition floor models at discounted prices. Even if you can’t make it to the actual store, they have an eBay page to keep tabs on.
A great set of sheets
A good night's sleep
Minimal online home companies offering great basics have been popping up over the last few years and I've taken advantage of this new convenience. I got rid of the bed boxspring and instead opted for a fluffy down mattress topper from Parachute Home. A fresh all season duvet comforter from Brooklinen and pillows from Parachute Home replaced the old bedding. My husband and I also have our own style of pillow from Cocomat in Soho, it is the best for head and neck support. I like to keep a glass carafe from Snowe Home with ice and cold water on my bedside table.
Buy once, and well
This has been my mindset recently when it comes to furniture, especially when you compare the prices to the current costs of fashion. These days, I would much rather have an amazing forever piece of furniture rather than clothes. Design Within Reach is the go-to place for timeless picks, like the Zenith Shag Rug and Jens Risom Small Side Table.
The little things
An Ellsworth Kelly flower (Hommage à Aimé et Marguerite Maeght) lithograph on the wall. A spotted Black Sheep (White Light) shearling from The Line on the bed. A small white vase on the nightstand for some flowers.
